  I don't know whether Joseph Ratzinger should feel worse about the children who were abused by Catholic priests over the centuries or whether he should feel worse for having been allied with the

  Nazis

  .

  It's just so hard to decide ... although arguably he wasn't the individual priests responsible for molesting children (as far as we know), but he did choose to join the Hitler Youth Movement (despite claims by him that it was "impossible" to not join or that there was no need to resist Nazism in his own community).

  Scully, I think probably feels worse about the abuse by catholic priests. Inheriting a semi open can of worms is never nice although the british press have suggested he was well aware of the situation before he came pope. IF what is being claimed in the press is true that he was aware then I don't feel sorry for him one little bit. I will have respect for him if he starts openly making significant and noticable changes to resolve the growing crisis. The claims over being impossible to not join I believe are more than likely true. Whilst studying history and one of my periods of study was europen hisotry 1904 - 1945, I was fortunate enough to meet two german men whom my parents knew from their holiday home in the south of France. With them I talked about who had been members of the hitler youth. German 1 said that he wanted to join, it was made to seem like fun and everyone was in the hitler youth, German 2 gave a somewhat different impression of there wasn't an option of not joining. Not joining made you different, different was bad and last thing you wanted to be in Nazi Germany was different. He went on to explain that those who were disliked or not inline with the nazi code would be singled out for questioning more often than those who weren't and people vanished. German 1 did not back up the story however he did explain he did say that the aim was to be signed up for SS school and rumours of the school were that the training was intense with live rounds! Both said that in hindsight movement and information were heavily restricted (sound familar?), however they never questioned why and they had no idea of what atrosities had been carried out in their country's name till after the war.

  Can You Get DFd for Working for the Department of Defense?

  so, as some of you may be aware, i got a job offer with an agency under the u.s. department of defense.

  the other day i told a member of my family, and they nearly went apeshit.. my question: what reprecussions could this reasonably have?

  does the wts speak of this in any of their publications?

  Dating a JW :-(

  i have been dating a jw for 2 years now and everything has been going great other than the fact that she is in a cult.

  she at first tried to convince me to join but she quickly realized i wasnt believer.

  in this age of information i just dont see how so many people can fall victim to this religion.

  Let start the old fashioned way!

  1) Does she drink

  2) Do her parents know about her relationship with you

  3) Are you having sex

  3b) Does she give head

  4) Does she have any tattoos

  5)Does she have a FB account

  6) Does she wear sexy clothes?

  If your answer to 2,3,6 is yes then you are a winner and it means that whilst she is a dub and unfortunately will come with some dub mentality she is definitely not towing the party line! If you have yes for others you are still winning and really really doesn't tow the party line!

  As an unbelieving mate I know the feeling of wanting to get them out, however sometimes it is better to maintain the status quo for the time. If you for yes to 2,3,6 and others of the questions above then she's not really hardcore, but attempts by you could push her that way.

  She has to want out and can she live with the consequences of being out such as being shunned by family and friends, so on and so forth.

  Next questions:

  7) does she do field service or meetings on a regular basis or when given the option of you or FS /meeting are you first choice?

  8) Does she celebrate your birthday others birthdays?

  If the answer to one or both is yes again your a winner! You are held in higher regard than the FDS.

  I would question why you are with her if you are going to use the "religion or me" routine. What if she was a hindu, or muslim or a satanic devil worshiper, would you be still trying to get her out? Ok she tried to get you to join "the dark side" but she is still with you so she must respect your choice of religion, so why do you not respect hers?

  Two years is a short time? How old are you both? If things are going well then continue on, relax stick around, enjoy the sun!

  Only you can make the choice.

  i stumbled upon a website about a year ago that turns the mundane chore of shaving into a snooty, high-class activity.

  Would you NOT hire a JW because they're a JW?

  I would hire a dub or anyone else but its on the following basis

  A) Are you competant to do the job

  B) Will you do the job.

  C) Do you have the appropriate experience

  D) Are you pro-active

  E) Will you fit in (i.e leave religion and problems at the door)

  In return you get a fair wage and reasonableness!

  I used to have a guy who worked for me called Pete. I didn't hire him, human remains did, but he seemed bright enough. Pete came from a big RC family and was very religious. Whilst Pete was more than capable of doing the job, it soon became apparent after he joined me that he just wasn't willing. For example he wanted to work from 6am till 2pm when my office worked mandatory core hours of 10-4. He didn't want to work in central london but at the workshop because it took him longer to get to the office than the worskshop.

  In addition to this he kept sprouting of his religious view point which didn't go over to greatly, and I think was probably tormenting him as the corporate sale girls were over the corridor in their short little business suits and heels!

  Oh and the clothing! In a professional public facing office, dressing like your going to a death metal concert is NOT appropriate! Next day he turned up wearing a bandana and after a quiet word we managed to get him into a office shirt! Needless to say he didn't meet any of the clients!

  The final straw was him comming and asking for more money after 2 weeks! Needless to say Pete after that request was given the choice to either do his job or leave. He made the right choice and he didn't do anymore work for us!

  The only time I used the handicap stalls is in the airport! That way I don't have to cozy up with my wheelie bag and laptop case.
